FISH

  • Tropical

We keep a huge selection of community fish such as neon tetras, cardinal tetras, guppies, mollies and platys always in stock plus plenty of corydoras catfish, ancistrus, dwarf gouramis, dwarf cichlids and siamese fighting fish; males and females.  For the larger aquarium there are varieties of barbs, rainbow fish, angels, cichlids, loaches and eels plus elephant nose, knifefish,  L number plecos and oddballs.  For the species tank there are shrimps, aquatic frogs and puffers.
  • Discus

The Discus fish is a South American Cichlid that belong to the genus Symphysodon. Originally, due to the environmental diversity of the vast Amazon River basin separate populations developed differential in color and markings. Discus fish breeders have greatly expanded upon this and developed new variations through selective breeding. Discus are widely found in calm parts of small, blackwater rivers, lakes and deep pools throughout the Amazon River basin. The water is usually very clean with little or no pollutants, acidic (6.0-6.5 pH), very soft (0-3 dH) and warm with a temperature of around 77-84°F (25-29°C). They are usually found in small groups around submerged decaying trees, vegetation and aquatic grasses.
  • Marine

The keeping of marine organisms in aquaria has come a long way in a remarkably short time. There is now no reason why keeping a tropical marine fish only or reef aquarium should be something to be feared by anyone but the first time fish keeper. Marine fish keeping is entirely different from the other types as this involves more knowledge and study. An extensive knowledge is required regarding the composition of water, its chemical properties and the adaptability of the inhabitants of a marine aquarium. Marine fish exhibit beautiful and stunning colours whilst others can even appear to have personalities and be curious and comical swimmers.
  • Rift Lakes

These cichlids come from lakes that formed when two great valleys filled with water millions of years ago and are unique in their huge cichlid populations that are principally endemic or, in other words, are only found in their respective lakes and nowhere else. Lake Tanganyika and Lake Malawi are the largest and most well known of the lakes. Lake Tanganyika is 400 miles long, has a maximum width of 50 miles and has a altitude of 2,536 feet. This Lake is the deepest of the Rift Lakes and most fish are contained to 300 feet, because the water is stagnant below that point, and there is no oxygen. Lake Malawi is the second deepest Rift Lake and has only one deep basin, which is in the northern end of the lake. Lake Malawi is 350 miles long, has a maximum width of 50 miles and is 1500 feet above sea level. Both Lakes have a high mineral-salt concentration and a high pH.
  • Goldfish

Goldfish are one of the most common type of pets in the world and actually exist in a far wider range of colours than their name implies. It took breeders many centuries of selective breeding to create the countless different varieties of goldfish that we see today. They are suitable for both ponds and home aquariums, although the different varieties can vary in terms of their hardiness, and not all are suited to being kept outdoors. Pearlscales, ryukins, orandas, lionheads and moors are just some of the varieties we regularly offer for sale.
